Kursinnhold
On the course we will focus on a variety of techniques, covering different characters and what is appropriate to convey this in the costume details. We will look at creating a texture, like moss for something more abstract/fantasy for example the costumes I worked on for The Children of the Forest in Game of Thrones, or Mary’s moss coat in the 2020 film adaptation of The Secret Garden. Then a darned and mended embroidery for a character of lower status for example the coat that Dickon wears in the 2020 film adaptation of The Secret Garden. Finally a look at enhancing a print or patterened fabric for a character of higher status for example the costumes worn by Queen Alicent in House of the Dragon or ball gowns worn by Gertude Belle in the film Queen of the Desert. I hope to show the participants a variety of approaches to creating different decorative details which will vary from project to project depending on scale, time and budget.
The course level is for all really, I am not doing anything too difficult, and the beauty of embroidery is much like handwriting everyone has a different style, some more intrictae, some more graphic, some a little wayward and none is better than another all have their charms and as with all aspects of costume it is character based and I hope to open up avenues in how to achieve what your desired vision may be.
